Search the Parsons Court Docket

A Parsons court docket search starts with one simple question: city ordinance or state court? Parsons keeps its municipal cases at the city office. Traffic tickets, misdemeanors, and smaller civil claims usually run through the Tucker County Magistrate Court instead. Felonies, larger civil disputes, and other circuit-level work sit with the Tucker County Circuit Clerk. Parsons is the county seat, so these offices sit close together. Their files are another matter entirely. No two offices share the same records, so a docket search only pays off when you ask the office that actually holds the case. Once you find a Parsons court docket entry that matters, call that office to confirm any hearing still on the calendar.

Parsons Court Records at the County Seat

As the county seat, Parsons is where Tucker County's state trial-court records live. The courthouse stands at 215 First Street. Per the judiciary directory, Circuit Clerk Sharon Moats works in Suite 403. Magistrate Clerk Brenda Arnold works in Suite 303 at 211 First Street. That address sits inside the courthouse and annex complex. Both counters serve the whole county. A Parsons address does not decide which one holds your file.

Population figures only describe the town, not its caseload. What decides the right office is simpler: the court level and the case type. Everything else is secondary.

The Parsons Municipal Court

Parsons publishes no municipal court docket page of its own. There is a city office route, though. The city has a published ordinance code. Read the code carefully. It collects local laws; it does not list cases, hearing dates, pleas, or outcomes. Ask the city office or the recorder. Ask whether a local ordinance record exists and how you can inspect or copy it. You will find the Parsons office at 341 Second Street, Parsons, WV 26287. The official directory lists 304-478-2311. Do not assume the Circuit Clerk or Magistrate Clerk holds a purely municipal file. By the same token, city staff cannot pull every state case that arose inside Parsons.

Two Parsons Court Clerk Counters

Each clerk counter has its own slice of the records. The Circuit Clerk keeps circuit, family, and juvenile files. The Magistrate Clerk handles magistrate criminal, traffic, civil, and special-proceeding cases. The Tucker County County Clerk is a separate office altogether. It holds county commission, election, land, and probate records. Those are not state-court dockets.

That division trips up a lot of visitors. Walking into the courthouse complex does not mean every counter can pull every Parsons file. Ask for the right office by case type before you queue.

Parsons Court Dates and Settings

Tucker County offers no official daily trial-calendar search online. The Circuit Clerk lists February, June, and October as terms of court. Those months alone do not promise a Parsons case will be heard then. A docket entry can show a setting, a continuance, or a reset. It may leave out room details or late changes. Treat any docket listing as a lead. Confirm the actual court date with the clerk or an official court notice.

DateThe setting date or new date entered after a continuance.
TimeThe call time, which may cover several cases.
CourtroomThe room in the notice; confirm it when the entry is blank.
JudgeThe assigned judge or magistrate, sometimes shown in an order.

Parsons Courthouse Records Since 1893

Parsons became the county seat after an 1893 transfer from St. George. The present courthouse followed, built from 1898 to 1900. That history matters for older research. An early file may be catalogued by county office, record series, or the former seat rather than a modern portal label. The Tucker County history page recounts the transfer. For an old matter, ask which series survives. Ask its approximate year, and whether the index runs by party, book, or case number. Context helps, but the clerk's index is what actually locates the record.

Parsons Traffic Tickets

A ticket written in Parsons is not automatically a city ordinance case. State traffic matters run through Tucker Magistrate Court. Its database takes a first name, last name, or exact case number. It returns case information without document images. The official system tells users to validate key details with the clerk.

The Magistrate Fine Payment portal uses a case number for eligible payments. Paying is not the same as asking for a hearing or contesting the citation. Follow the ticket and court instructions. Failing to answer or appear can trigger notice steps and, on proper motion, a warrant. For the countywide route, see Tucker County traffic court records.

Parsons Court Dockets Across Two Portals

Magistrate Case Record Search is free and needs no registration. It returns basic case information but puts no magistrate documents online. WVPASS is the other half of the picture: public circuit records and documents, registration required, and possible per-page charges for available images.

Where Parsons Cases End Up

Local ordinance matters start through the city route. State traffic, misdemeanors, preliminary felony stages, small claims, and other magistrate matters go through Tucker Magistrate Court. Anything bigger, meaning felony trials, major civil cases, equity matters, and lower-court appeals, belongs in the Circuit Court of Tucker County, part of the 22nd Judicial Circuit with Preston County.

That line is only a routing aid. No Parsons case has to pass through all three stops. Family matters take the Randolph/Tucker Family Court route, and the Tucker County court docket overview walks through each layer plainly.

When a Parsons Court Record Is Missing

An empty Parsons docket search is not proof that nothing exists. Several things can hide a case. The query may hit the wrong court level. A name may be spelled differently in the file. The filing may still be in processing, or the paper may simply be unavailable online. Work through the exact last name, a first initial, the full name, spelling variants, and a case number if you have one. Magistrate documents are different. The clerk holds those, and the images are not online, so contact the office.

Use the clerk fallback. Ask the right Parsons clerk to validate the number, status, next public setting, retention, and copy method. Never bypass a seal or confidentiality rule.

Missing circuit document on WVPASS? The official guidance sends you to the Circuit Clerk. Federal cases sit somewhere else entirely. They live in PACER under the Northern District of West Virginia, Elkins Division, not in any state portal.

Public Access to Parsons Court Records

West Virginia FOIA opens with a presumption that records are public, subject to its exemptions. Court files add another layer. Judicial rules, privacy laws, and sealing orders also govern them. Trial Court Rule 10.04 sets out how custodian requests work. It covers inspection during usual hours, electronic format where available, and reproduction costs limited to reasonable actual charges. Under Rule 10.03, a court order can restrict access to civil files.

Key Rules:

West Virginia FOIA §29B-1-4 provides access subject to exemptions without displacing court restrictions.

Trial Court Rules 10.03 and 10.04 govern file limits, custodian requests, inspection, and reproduction.

West Virginia Code §49-5-103 restricts juvenile records except where disclosure is authorized.

Family files split into public and private pieces. Orders and indices may be open while pleadings, recordings, exhibits, and transcripts stay confidential, and domestic-violence files carry their own restrictions. When authentication matters, ask the clerk for a certified copy, since a WVPASS download does not qualify.

A Parsons Court Access Landmark

The official Parsons municipal page presents the county-seat setting where city and county record routes meet.

That civic backdrop is scenery, though; the judiciary directory and the two Parsons clerk offices control state-court docket access.

Reading a Parsons Court Docket Entry

A Parsons search result is a sequence of court events, never a one-line verdict. Read it that way. The case number identifies the file. Its filing date matters too. That is when the initiating paper, citation, petition, or indictment entered the court system. Party-role labels like plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, and respondent describe each side's legal position. And remember: a charge, complaint, petition, or allegation is not a finding of fact.

Continuance or reset
A scheduled event moved to another date. Confirm the replacement setting with the clerk.
Disposition
The recorded outcome or status, such as pending, dismissed, judgment, transferred, or closed.
Order
A court directive. A short docket notation may not contain the full terms of the signed order.
Service or notice
An entry recording that papers were served, mailed, published, or returned.

A document linked in WVPASS may add detail, but it stays an uncertified portal copy. For magistrate papers, make the request through Brenda Arnold's office. Keep the exact status as shown, and never turn a pending Parsons allegation into a conclusion.
