Searching Cases by Name
The West Virginia Judiciary's Court Record Access page is the front door. It routes a Tucker County case search to the correct official service. Pick WVPASS for a public circuit matter. Pick Magistrate Case Record Search for traffic, misdemeanor, preliminary felony, or small-claims cases. One surname can pull up many records. So add a first name or initial when you can. County and filing details help you tell results apart. The magistrate system may show a birthdate. Treat it as a way to match, not something to republish.
- Decide whether Circuit Court, Family Court, Magistrate Court, or a municipal court handled the matter.
- Open the official state access page and select WVPASS or Magistrate Case Record Search.
- Try the exact last name, then add a first name or initial and check spelling variants.
- Compare the court, case number, filing date, and case type before opening a result.
- Save the case number and ask the proper Tucker County clerk to confirm key facts.
Each service asks for different fields. The judiciary documents them separately. WVPASS shows its exact labels only inside the account flow, so do not guess at hidden controls.
| Official search | Field | Type | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| WVPASS | Party name | Text | Confirmed search mode |
| WVPASS | Case number | Text | Best when known |
| WVPASS | Other filters | Portal controls | Exact labels require login |
| Magistrate Search | First name | Text | Narrows a surname search |
| Magistrate Search | Last name | Text | Officially supported |
| Magistrate Search | Case number | Text | Officially supported |
Tucker County WVPASS Access
WVPASS is the public route into Tucker County Circuit Court case information and any public documents. Its coverage runs from July 1, 1999 forward. You will need free registration, a login, and two-factor verification to get in. Browsing case details costs nothing. A public document runs 25 cents per page, plus any stated processing charge. What you download is a plain portal copy, not a certified one.
The official WVPASS entry screen shows where a Tucker County circuit search begins.

Do not read a blank logged-out screen as proof that Tucker County has no case. The account gate hides results until you sign in. Purchase history stays available for 30 days. An interrupted paid download can be retried without a second document charge. WVPASS sets no daily search limit. But rapid automated activity can trip security controls, and bulk downloading is not supported.
Searching by Case Number
A case number is usually the cleanest Tucker County lookup key. It keeps people with similar names from tangling together. Type the identifier exactly as the court issued it, punctuation included. Circuit, family, magistrate, Business Court, and federal numbers each follow their own format. A public Tucker civil example uses 22-C-4-TKR as a Business Court reference. It also carries an underlying circuit civil-action number. That example is a layout model, not a universal rule. When an exact number returns nothing, check the court level before changing digits. A magistrate number belongs in Magistrate Case Record Search, not WVPASS. A federal number belongs in PACER. A city ordinance reference may need the municipal clerk or recorder. The characters zero and the letter O can look alike. Read them aloud to the clerk. Note: Keep the complete court-issued number intact. Each system may handle omitted punctuation, court codes, or suffixes differently.
Tucker County Magistrate Search
The official Magistrate Case Record Search takes a first name, last name, or case number. It is free and needs no account, though the landing screen may present a captcha. The service caps results at 30 records. When a broad Tucker County name search hits that cap, add a first name or use the exact case number. A result can show general case detail, filing date, charge, disposition, and a document list.
The judiciary's instructions state one clear limit: magistrate document images are not online. A list proves a paper exists without handing it over. Ask Magistrate Court Clerk Brenda Arnold for copies. Public terminals at magistrate clerk offices work when the website falls short.
A magistrate result is a locator, not a certified archive. Validate an important charge, disposition, or document with the Tucker County Magistrate Court Clerk.
What a Case Search Returns
A Tucker County case search often shows a compact result row first. Fuller detail appears once you select it. What you get depends on the court level and your access. A circuit record may offer a register of actions and public document links through WVPASS. A magistrate result can list charges, disposition, and papers. Even so, it sends you to the clerk for copies. Filed, pending, dismissed, guilty, settled, transferred, and closed each mark a different stage or outcome.
| Case number | The identifier assigned by that court and system. |
|---|---|
| Case style | The caption or short name of the matter. |
| Filed date | When the citation, petition, complaint, or appeal entered court. |
| Case type | Circuit civil or criminal, family, juvenile, traffic, magistrate civil, or another category. |
| Status | The portal's current posture or outcome label. |
| Register entries | Filings, settings, orders, continuances, judgment, or closure. |
| Document list | An index of papers; image and certification access are separate. |
| Judicial officer | The assigned judge or magistrate when publicly displayed. |
A charge, complaint, petition, or indictment is not a finding of guilt or liability. Read Tucker County case records with their dates, status, and later entries in view.
Missing Tucker County Documents
A Tucker County docket search comes up empty. That does not mean the filing never existed. The paper can predate WVPASS coverage or sit in an archive. It may await processing or lack a public image. Some filings are restricted. Sealed and juvenile records are excluded from WVPASS. Magistrate Case Record Search offers no document images at all. So keep the case number, name the exact paper, and ask before assuming anything is missing.
Where do you ask? Circuit, family, and juvenile files belong to the Tucker County Circuit Clerk. Call 304-478-2606. The office sits at 211 First Street, Suite 403, Parsons, WV 26287, or email sharon.moats@courtswv.gov. Magistrate papers go to Brenda Arnold in Suite 303, at 304-478-2665. The county directory lists a different magistrate number. The current Tucker judiciary directory is the most reliable court-specific source.
Whether you mail, email, fax, call, or visit the counter, spell out the court, case number, style, filing year, the paper you need, copy type, delivery preference, and your contact details. Ask which channels and fees apply. Tucker County offers no direct online copy-request form and no guaranteed email-copy policy.
Statewide vs County Case Search
Tucker County runs no single portal that pools every court's docket. Both public lookup systems are statewide. The local clerks are the offices that hold and certify the actual Tucker records. WVPASS and Magistrate Case Record Search split their coverage by court level. CourtPLUS is statewide technology as well. But it serves authorized circuit and family filers rather than the general public.
| Channel | Tucker coverage | Documents | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| WVPASS | Public circuit records | Available images for a charge | Circuit detail and filings |
| Magistrate Search | Traffic, misdemeanor, preliminary felony, and magistrate civil | Lists only | Basic case information |
| Local clerks | Records held by each court | Ordinary or certified copies | Verification and missing items |
| Municipal office | Local ordinance records | Ask the city or town | City ordinance matters |
Federal matters sit outside the Tucker County court docket system. For federal filings, this county falls under the Northern District of West Virginia's Elkins Division, and the official case search runs through PACER.
Tucker County Filing Boundaries
Three similarly named state services trip people up. WVPASS is the public side: circuit court docket search and document access for anyone. CourtPLUS, also known as WV E-File, is different. That system handles case management and filing for court staff and authorized users. A third tool, Magistrate Case Record Search, opens lower-court information to the public. Tucker County came onto CourtPLUS on August 29, 2022. Statewide circuit and family courts finished rolling it out by July 15, 2024.
A CourtPLUS receipt lists a reference number. It also shows filing type, filing date, county, and status. Read it carefully. It proves an electronic submission reached the system, nothing more. Clerk review can come later. Rejection by the clerk, review by the judge, and fee posting can all follow. The CourtPLUS explanation spells this out for filers. For public circuit case lookup, WVPASS is still the layer to use.
Access and Restricted Cases
Court rules, statutes, privacy law, and sealing orders govern access to West Virginia court records. Juvenile records stay closed unless a law specifically opens them. Under Family Court Rule 6, orders and indices are public. Pleadings, exhibits, recordings, and transcripts generally remain confidential. Domestic-violence database records get separate confidential handling.
Restricted access to a civil file is possible through Trial Court Rule 10.03. The order must state its scope, duration, and reason. Rule 10.04 covers how to request inspection or copies from the clerk. Even an open file can hold protected data. Social Security numbers are off limits for reuse. So are account details, minors' identities, medical information, and protected addresses.
When access is lawful but the item is not online, ask the Tucker County clerk about inspection or a copy. Some records require a court order, subpoena, party status, or another formal basis. Spell a name differently all you like. That trick never makes a restricted record public.
Tucker County Search Checklist
Bring a short fact set. The clerk can then resolve a Tucker County case search fast, without gathering anything extra. Note the court level and the county. Include the full case number and the case style or name. Add the approximate year and the exact paper or event you need. Say plainly whether the question involves access, a hearing, a copy, a balance, or a portal label.
- Register of actions
- The chronological list of filings and court events.
- Disposition
- The recorded outcome or status, distinct from the original allegation.
- Certified copy
- A clerk-authenticated record, unlike an ordinary download.
- Continuance
- An event moving a proceeding to another date.
- Public index
- A basic listing that may remain open while papers are confidential.
Once a docket search turns up a case number, the paper file is the next step. The Tucker County court records process walks through copies, certified documents, transcripts, and requests to the clerk.
